The highly anticipated Masters Division championship game featured Middlebury and Jagermeister in the finals. The top four teams in the Masters bracket were all fairly evenly matched and the teams lived up to the billing as Jager defeated Middlebury 8-6 to take the hardware. Jager fell behind 1-0 in the first quarter, but never trailed again after notching two quick ones in the second quarter to take a 3-1 lead. Kevin Owens had a great day, scoring both of those goals within 20 seconds and winning the face-offs to boot. In fact, the battle for face-offs was a huge story in the first half as Owens and Rich Becker controlled 9 of 11 draws in the first 24 minutes for the orange-clad Jagermeister team.
Jager was nearly undone by penalties, racking up 6 for 5:00 minutes and giving up two extra-man goals to Middlebury. The boys in Blue were led by a three goal effort from attackman Seth Low who finished just about everything that came his way on the crease. But the second half story was Jagermeister goaltender Sean O’Rourke, who totaled 15 saves on the day. Despite his team being outshot 41-25, O’Rourke was in control and kept Middlebury at bay down the stretch. Owens, Andrew Wendol and Frank Shipman all had two goals for Jager.
In the 3rd place game, Lacrossewear defeated Lax Gear/Silver Oysters 7-4. Both teams were predominantly players from Colorado and this game was close throughout until the last few minutes of the contest.
