Q: When is this darn Vail Lacrosse Shootout?
A: The Vail Shootout is always scheduled during the 10 days surrounding
the 4th of July. Each year we schedule the Men's and Women's Elite divisions around the 4th of July
holiday to give fans the best opportunity to see our premiere divisions play. The dates tend to
be announce around the 1st of the year.
Q: Where am I sending my kid to when I pay all this money?
A: The fields are located along a 13 mile stretch of I-70, basically
making use of all the fields in the towns of Vail, Avon and Edwards, Colorado. The details of each
location are available here.
Q: I'm naive and think organizing a team would be a blast. How do I bring
a team to the tournament.
A: The tournament has a team selection process that varies by division.
For most divisions, To be considered, we must receive a completed Request for Entry form (enclosed)
along with a ~$300 deposit check made payable to International Lacrosse Promotions, Inc.,
by early February. Even if your team is returning from last year, the written Request for Entry
must be submitted. Your Request for Entry form and deposit check should be mailed to: International
Lacrosse Promotions, c/o Connie Streich, 7056 Turweston Lane, Castle Rock, CO 80108. The $300 deposit
will be applied to your ~$1000-1500 entry fee if your team is accepted; if your team is not
accepted the deposit check will be voided. The balance of the entry fee will be due by mid April.
Once a team is accepted, all deposit and entry fees are non-refundable. Details for each division
may differ as well as costs from year to year.
Q: I want to bankroll my own team. How much does it cost to enter a team?
A: The team entry fee varies by division, but runs from $700-1500.
That is just the tip of the iceberg though, uniforms, airfare, accommodations, ground transportation
are all going to set you back a bit. A full cost accounting of a team budget would probably run
about $25,000 per team. (assuming airfare included).
Q: I don't have a team, and my Dad says he doesn't have $25,000 to buy me
one but I'd still like to play. Can the tournament find me a team or provide me a list of teams
and contacts so I can find a team to play on?
A: As a general rule, (unless a team contacts us) the tournament does
not interfere with the player selection process nor provide contacts of teams entered. You will
have to use your other lacrosse contacts to determine who might be bringing a team in your age bracket.
Q: My son/daughter is All-american/all-league/all-division/all-cousin-jimmy's-select-team-captain/
and I want her to get on a team in the Shootout. Who do I have to bribe and how much is it going
to cost?
A: No bribes are necessary (at least to us). We don't match players
and teams, but if you contact your local coach or league coordinator, it is likely that they know
who from your area might be bringing a team. Your local contacts will serve you best. Then we suggest
you bribe them with sponsorship money or a fundraiser to take your son/daughter with them so you
can go to Hawaii for the week.
Q: Dude, I'm in college so I have time to drive/fly out to the tournament.
What are the chances of hopping on a team when I get there? Can I play on yours?
A: Dude, it's not the Bump and Grind Lax tourney. Most teams make
their players spend a lot of cash to come to the tourney, so most times they have full squads and
don't pick up extra people because they have made committments to play the players who have paid
all that cash to come out. There is also the matter of membership in US Lacrosse that each player
is required to have.
Q:Where do people stay when they come to the tournament?
A: In hotels, condos, apartments. Seriously though, Players and fans
use a variety of accomodations in Vail, Avon, Eagle Vail and Edwards. Contact Moguls Ski and Snowboard

handling most of the travel arrangements for the Vail Lacrosse Shootout
Q: I'm poor, have nothing else to do that week and I want to work long hours
for little/no pay but hang out with cool lacrosse people. How do I volunteer for the tournament
A: There are volunteer opportunities, please email Flip Naumburg with
your age, your availability and your interests and we'll try and match you to a volunteer opportunity.
Q: When will the vail website have more information about schedules and
teams for next year?
A: Here is a basic timeline: dates announced Dec/Jan, teams announced
April, schedule in mid June, rosters a day or two into the action, scores hopefully before evening
festivities, and pictures get processed when time permits.
Q: Hey, the tournament has started, how did little Billy's team do today?
Where are the pictures from his game? What was the score? When will all of that be up? How can I
find out information about my son's/daughter's/dad's/mom's team and how they're doing?
A: The Vail Lacrosse Website strives to have many of the tournament
highlights and standings within 24 hours after the action happens but with 7 divisions and close
to 100 teams playing simultaneously, information about the standings and players may take longer
than you'd like before we have a chance to post onto the website. Our primary interest is in running
the tournament itself. This is a nice, extra we provide. If you must have same-day information,
WE STRONGLY SUGGEST that it might be better to suggest your significant other call you with their
own version of the day's highlights.
Q:How do I Get to Vail?
A: From Denver: Take Interstate 70 - West approximately 100 miles
to Vail, Colorado. The Vail Ford and Athletic fields are 1/2 mile East of the Vail Villiage. The
Eagle-Vail field is in Eagle-Vail, approximately 4 miles west of Vail Villiage. Exit at Avon/Beaver
Creek and take the frontage road approximately 2 miles East (yea, back toward Vail), Exit the frontage
road at the Eagle-Vail Clock tower and go 1/4 mile to field. Avon is the primary site of the Women's
tournament and will host Men's elite division games. Avon is 5 miles West of Vail. Exit Interstate
70 at Avon and go North toward Beaver Creek Ski Resort. Fields will be on your right. Make a right
on road immediately before you enter Beaver Creek Resort.
Q: What is the Vail Lacrosse Tournament?
A: The Vail Lacrosse Tournament is by most accounts, the most prestigious
annual Club Lacrosse tournament in the world. Past years have seen the United States national team
and the Canadian national team enter the tournament (1994). In 1993, the Canadian East and West
invitational squads competed in the tournament, and held a quiet intersquad game on the last day
of the tournament to help determine the final roster for the 1994 Canadian national team. The English
national team competed in Vail in 1992, and for the last 10 years, the top teams from the United
States Club Lacrosse Association have brought teams to Vail. In 1995 16 of the 24 1994 U.S. National
team players competed in the tournament for different teams. Since the start of Major League Lacrosse,
fewer professional players are able to make it out, but the Colorado Mammoth along with other National
Lacrosse League players continue to take the field. In 2006, a Grand Masters division will be offered
for those >50.
Q: What are the age limits?
There are no age exemptions. All U.S. participants must be members
of US Lacrosse.
High School: players must be 19 or under. A player that turns 19 during the current year, if a high
school senior graduating in the current year, is eligible. College and post graduate students (such
as students that have graduated from high school and are attending prep school before college) are
NOT eligible to play.
Masters: players must be 33 and over - including a player that turns 33 sometime during the current
year.
Supermasters: players must be 40 and over - including a player that turns 40 sometime during the
current year.
Grandmasters: players must be 50 and over - including a player that turns 50 sometime during the
current year.
Q: How are teams selected for entry into the tournament?
Teams that participated in the previous year's tournament are given
their spots back. Any remaining spots will be filled by teams selected by us. We will select teams
that will best round-out the geographical representation of teams. Preference will be given to teams
representing a state or region (75% of roster from a specified state or region).
Q: How do players get on a team for the Shootout?
A: Each team has it's own policy on recruiting players and generally
the Shootout does not provide those contacts unless the teams ask for help from the tournament in
finding players. You'll have to contact teams on your own using your contacts, friends associates
and perhaps electronic bulletin boards like the ones at e-lacrosse.com and lax.com.
Q: Can a player play for multiple teams?

A: We are always looking for sponsors for the tournament. If your
