Tournament Review
By Garrett Fitzgerald
The second year of the Granmasters was a nothing less than huge success.
Four complete teams competed in this year's tournament, the Rockies,
Los Viejos, the USA Stars, and the Navy Old Goats. While there was
no true champion of the Grandmaster's division the high level of sportsmanship
was a credit to the division. Don't be surprised to see a lot of growth
from the Grandmaster's division for the 2008 Vail Lacrosse shoot out.

Saturday 6/30
Results
Rockies 10, Los Viejos 6
Los Viejos came out firing and grabbing a three goal lead but the
Rockies didn’t give up. They fought back and came out with a win,
even though they hadn’t won a game so far this tournament.
USA Stars 10, Navy Old Goats 3
The USA stars were able to move the ball with precision reroute to
the win. Navy was score less through the first half but fought hard
in their last game of the tournament. The got a few goals late but
USA Stars cruised to the win
Friday 6/29 Results
Los Viejos 11, Navy 2
This match up looked more like a game against family than a game against
one’s enemy. There was great sportsmanship between both teams although
Navy couldn’t pull of the win no one could ever have guessed that
they lost.
USA Stars 8, Rockies 4
In a good game between two teams with a lot of experience, the USA
starts were able to limit the Rockies offense. Philip Strain had all
four goals for the Rockies and the score would have been a lot worse
if it had not been for the great play of the Rockies goaltender.
Thursday 6/28 Results
Navy 9, Rockies 7
Navy won the majority of the face-offs and was able to control the
tempo most of the game. Both Teams played evenly until Navy took the
lead. The Rockies were unable to catch up and was mostly attributed
to Navy’s awesome time-killing-ability.
Los Viejos 11, USA Stars 10
Los Viejos was dominating the entire game until the 4th when bill
Pyatt scored 4 goals in a row to start their comeback. Those goals
brought them to within one in the final three minutes, and even though
Dennis Dobbyn made of the Stars made 17 saves it wasn’t enough to
stem the tide. Los Viegos walked away with one of the most hard fought
wins off all the games of the tournament today.
