reLAXers over the PA Express 14-10
Both teams came to play as the ReLAXers prepared to defend their Women's Elite Championship
title against the PA Express. The ReLAXers jumped out early on a quick goal from Colleen
Dalon (W&M, '06) just one minute into the game. They would go on to score the next
two goals as well, with tallies from Caroline McGuire (Richmond, '06) and Lauren Work
(W&M, '04). Halfway through the first half the ReLAXers had a commanding 3-0 lead.
PA Express would not quit. After having a goal called back due to a crease violation,
the offense would explode, scoring six consecutive goals. Megan Burker (Stanford, '06)
answered the call by registering three goals for the Express. Katie Doolittle (Maryland,
'07), Johna Capaldo (Temple, '07), and Kristen Burke (Penn State, '05) also scored. The
ReLAXers would pick up another goal before halftime, however, as Allison Evans (W&M,
'03) would bounce a pass past goalie Courtney Hastrich.
Hastrich would finish the first half with two saves for PA Express, who led 6-4 at halftime.
Her counterpart, Debby Petracca, would finish with eight for the ReLAXers.
The ReLAXers would make a game out of it in the second half. After an early goal by Burker
gave the Express a three goal advantage, the ReLAXers answered with three consecutive
goals to tie the game at 7. The battle continued, as the teams traded goals one more time
before the ReLAXers regained the lead on another goal by Caroline McGuire. Each team would
continue to score, but the ReLAXers would not relinquish the lead, and would continue
on to become the 2006 Vail Shootout Women's Division Champions.
