Pool play in the highly anticipated U-19 Division kicked off on Tuesday with all four of the favored teams moving through their brackets easily. Much like the World Cup of Soccer, the top two teams in each group move through to the knockout stages in days 2-4. There, they are separated into a Division I and Division II and they move through like a normal tournament from then on.
Defending champion Team Colorado had their way in Conference A with Arizona getting past FLC to move to the quarterfinals. Baltimore blasted their way through Conference B with no games closer nine goals. Southeast also got through to the second round. In Conference C, New England didn’t have much trouble either. Moose Jaw, a Canadian entrant, surprised many by making it to the Division I quarterfinals. Finally, in Conference D, Team Ohio looked as strong as ever and won all three games. Team Minnesota also showed promise, defeating the Chowdaheads for the last Division I spot.
Quarterfinals on Day 2 should be exciting as New England, Baltimore, Colorado
and Ohio look poised to move through to the semifinals. The top four would be smart not
to overlook some of the upstart teams, however, or they could be watching the final four
