Tap Room/Atlantic Sportswear Defeats Elder Statesmen for Super Masters Championship, 11-6
Vail-sponsored team wins just second-ever hometown championship



Today, In the final day of Super Masters competition in the Vail Shootout, Tap Room/Atlantic Sportswear used two late Dave Mehlhorn goals and a dominating fourth quarter to clinch a 11-6 win over the Elder Statesmen and Vail's second-ever hometown championship on Ford East Field. Jay Bloom led all scores in the game with a goal and three assists for the champs. Mehlhorn and John Campbell were next for Tap Room/Atlantic Sportswear with three goals and two goals and an assist respectively. The Statesmen's Chris Rossi led his squad with two goals and an assist.

Four alternating multi-goal runs through the game had the score at 6-5 favoring Tap Room/Atlantic Sportswear at the 10:35 mark of the third quarter. One additional goal per team set up a 7-6 fourth quarter before Tap Room took control.

One early T.R. goal by Kurt Stenberg set the tone 1:35 into the fourth. Just over five minutes later Mehlhorn scored twice within a minute and a half (1:20) to add all the insurance needed for his squad. The icing on the cake came with 14 seconds left when Tap Room's Steve Murphy found the back of the net to reach the 11-6 final.

Depth on the bench (nine to six players) and consistent offensive pressure from Tap Room/Atlantic Sportswear proved to be the deciding factor in the game. Vail's finest out-shot the Elder Statesmen in three of the four quarters and owned a 38-22 advantage in ground balls through the game.

Super Masters Championship
Tap Room/Atlantic Sportswear 11, Elder Statesmen 6

Super Masters 3rd Place Game
Navy 9, Frogs 3
After a five to two lead the Frogs weren't able to mount a substantial comeback. Navy's Glen Miles led all scorers with three goals and an assist.

Super Masters 5th Place Game
CVLC 10, Tombstone 9
Tombstone dominated the first half with nine goals. CVLC came out refreshed in the second, scoring two goals in the both the third and fourth. They dominated in the shot catagory through the second half, winning 10-9

Super Masters 7th Place Game
Lax Planet 9, Princeton 5
Lax Planet used big quarters in the second and fourth to clintch the win (4-2 and 3-1 respectively). Although on the short side of the result, Princeton's Scott Gabriesen led all scorers with four goals.


Super Masters Division II

Division II Championship
Magic Wands 6, Middlebury 1
Five goals in the first quarter were all the Magic Wands needed to secure the Division II championship. Dave King paced all scorers with two goals and an assist for three points.

3rd Place
Tri-City 12, Rockies 2
This game was never close. After striving for a goal a quarter through the half, Tri-City slammed the door shut with five second-half goals to none for the Rockies.

5th Place
Cactus 9, USA Stars 8
This game was a back and forth battle until the end. Cactus' Luke Brennon led all scorers with three goals

Other Consolation Games:
WOOFs 6, Air Force 4
Woofs outscored Air Force 3-1 in the second half to clintch victory. Danny Roden led all scorers with two goals and two assists for four points.

Navy Weems Creek 6, Behind the Back 4
Navy used a 5-2 scoring blitz in the second half to seal the win. Skip Miller scored three goals to pace the Navy offense.
