Coaches: Todd Zuharak and Chris Kierig Team Captains: Matt Peterson and Erik Swain Top 3 Players: 1) Scott Schroeder, G Georgetown '02, AA 02, First-team ECAC '01 & '02 2) Jim Martocchio, A Plymouth St '00, Pilgrim league player of the year, '00. 3) Chris Kierig, D Occidental '92, Laxteam organizer of the year, '02, Honorable mention '01, Statement: MadLax is a new name on a returning squad. We're excited now that we've gained a new sponsor, new coach, and a host of new players to compliment the Vail veterans on the formerly Team AOL squad. Every year we recruit new players, bribe a new coach and wing our way out to the land of Zima and Coors Light to play lacrosse, dent vans, flip over the handlebars, river raft and make friends along the way. We're mixing never-has-beens with young studs and the results aren't in yet but should not be missed. Our team will feature players that weren't born when Reagan and JR were shot along with wily veterans who remember watching an Apollo moon landing at the breakfast table. Our players have taken a pledge to keep track of Wil Pace, make another victorious troll run, host great events, play inspired lacrosse and to stay out of the pokey. A strong defense unit is co-captained by Zach Fisher (Syracuse) and Wil Pace (VMI) with returning players Ian Wright (Delaware), Lou Cugno (Drexel), Chris Kierig (Occidental) and Steve Sharpe (Mary Washington), as well as veteran goalies Mark Grilo (Drew) and Scott Schroeder (Georgetown). Madlax hopes to keep opponents from finding the net too often with this core group. Returning face-off midfielder Pat Miller (JHU) will be counted on to win the face-off battle with help from newcomer James Cramp. Long-time veterans Matt Peterson, Erik Swain, Tom Langan, Jim Martocchio, Dave Deriso, Dan Chemotti, and Mike Talarico steady the attack and midfield. A good recruiting year should result in some goals by rookie MadLax players with first names of Adam, Mike, Kevin, Matt, Phil, and Jason. Team Madlax expects to have fun, play hard and compete for the title in 2002. We thank Flip and Jim for their vision to create the best lacrosse tournament in the world. |
