2002 PREVIEW When the MLL Pro outdoor lacrosse league came along 2 summers ago, and many of the players with "big names" could no longer come to The Shootout, it signified a new and uncertain era for the Elite tournament. That new era quickly shaped itself when many of the current best college players from all over the country started jumping on the stage headed to Vail. The Elite event has quickly become a piece of modern "art". The mountain landscape will be highlighted by one of the finest collections of young gun lacrosse talent that you will find anywhere. Stars can be seen everywhere you look, but team play has become chic again, and this athletic, fast paced style will be the main fireworks on display in Vail this July 4 holiday, as the fireworks shows have been cancelled for this year with so many fires burning out of control around the state. Dates of Play Thursday - July 4, 2002: Opening Round Games Friday - July 5, 2002: Second Round Games Saturday - July 6, 2002: Semi-Final Games Sunday - July 7, 2002: Championship and Consolation Games Men's Elite Brackets Locations Games on each day are held at Ford Field and Eagle/Vail Field with the winning games primarily held at Ford Field, just east of downtown Vail, and the consolation games primarily held at Eagle/Vail Field. Sunday's championship games are held at Ford Field. Rules of Play In the Elite Division of the Vail Shootout the rules are modified from the 2001 NCAA Lacrosse Men's Rules. View Rules Requirements All Players must be members of US Lacrosse. Players may contact US Lacrosse before the tournament to make this as easy as possible. US Lax representatives will be on-hand to check in teams to ensure that all are current members. You may renew or join at: US Lacrosse
